South Norfolk and Broadland Council
The Traveller's Charm
All our activities are suitable to non-native English speakers of one ability level or another. Even those activities primarily targeted at UK students are suitable for proficient English as a Foreign Language (EFL) students, although in some cases they may be quite challenging!
We can, in many cases, offer a fully translated option for younger students or those with very limited English, without making the puzzles themselves too childlike. Please enquire if you believe your group requires this facility.
Our grading system for activities follows the Common European Framework for language teaching and examination. We've simplified the many possible levels by classifying our games as 'Advanced', Intermediate' and 'Elementary'; the following table illustrates the proficiency level expected from each of these classifications to help teachers and organisers choose the right game and level for their group.
C1 - Proficiency
C2 - Advanced
B2 - Upper Intermediate
B1 - Intermediate & pre-intermediate
A2 - Pre-intermediate & Elementary
A1 - Beginner

Explore Norfolk’s Broadland District
with this FREE Magical Quest
Have you ever met one of Norfolk’s Hikey Sprites? Or seen a sneaky Jack O’Lantern flickering in the fens?
This free Trail was created by Broadland District Council in partnership with Discovery Games Ltd to celebrate the occasion of Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee. Download your copy now to explore the magical Broadland district of Norfolk and take part!

Our playful Hikey Sprite has given us a series of hidden clues and puzzles to hunt down and put together. They are grouped into four different Quests. Solving each Quest will give you, the cleverest hunters, the magical keys needed to unlock the charm.
Unlock all four Quests to register your claim for a Traveller’s Charm, and you’ll be entered into a prize draw! Please visit this webpage to find out more information on what you could win! By completing the Trail, you could also gain a Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Challenge Badge. Find more information here: platinumjubileenorfolk.org/jubilee-awards/
Warning! Sprites, goblins and trolls sometimes tinker with Clues and Puzzles just to confuse us all. To help you enjoy your adventure to its fullest, please keep an eye on the latest updates to this puzzle trail at "A message from the Hikey Sprites".
